People, play and purpose

It all started with a girl named Lucía.

Before the technology, before the awards and before Minifunkids, there was a real story that changed how we understand what a child can achieve.

Our story

First came the play.
Everything else came after.

María Jesús Garrido came from social inclusion work and early childhood education when she began working with Lucía, a girl born with a rare disease.

They worked together for years. There was effort, persistence and therapy — but also something that kept happening: progress often showed up when learning turned into play.

María Jesús began to wonder what was going on in a child’s brain when an experience sparked curiosity, excitement and the urge to join in. That question turned into a passion.

Her interest in technology later led her to virtual reality: a way to recreate immersive experiences that many people couldn’t have because of their circumstances.

And that’s how Minifunkids was born: from the meeting of play, support and technology.

A story that says something about us too

Some things make more sense when you feel them.

Beyond the Sea is a look at what happens when technology stops being the point and starts opening up possibilities for people.
